Tanoak

Notholithocarpus densiflorus
Janka | 1420
Southwest Oregon

Not actually an oak, but with oak-like acorns with bristles sticking out around the acorn cap like the crown on the Statue of Liberty. Still, it is threatened by Sudden Oak Death, Phytophthora ramorum, which is slowly spreading through Southwest Oregon. Utilizing the lumber from salvage operations is important to support restoration efforts.
